Cebu City, Philippines The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

First time visitors, you can disable some of the places visited that city, Cebu City. Real Estate in Cebu has many world class resorts, hotels, beaches and diving spots. We also have some areas of the world’s most devastating poverty. Cebu City is the provincial capital of Cebu Condos, the second largest city in the Philippines after Manila. Before I built my house in rural areas and islands Sebukamotesu always feel at home in the city, lived in the city. Cebu City, the elderly and young, rich and poor, good, bad, ugly and beautiful mixture Dirty or clean, there are a mixture of really dirty. Rules for people who go to Cebu, by the decision-making are not the first fracture.

My first trip to Cebu City was in February 2004. I am now my wife, daughter (Judith), went to the Philippines to meet the. I Sebumakutan – flew to the airport and met one of his sisters here with Judith. Began last leg of the flight from Hong Kong and my flight to Florida Cebu International Airport is a little old but is very functional. Just outside the door of the airport I saw a wave of people waiting to meet people from Hong Kong come from the plane. When I arrived, my flight when I thought it was cheap once you arrive at the airport was not busy. Walk out the door of the airport from the flight of my people, buses, V and Taxi – greeter hire, had been bombed at all to try to get a ticket. I met Judith just outside the door of the airport. She, her sister and me to jump into the old Kia all taxi and headed to my hotel.

Taxis are very old and were not well maintained. A window air conditioner that did not go down feature Because of the door latch was broken, so I could not close the door, of course, it did not matter. So, I got a lot of air. The hotel was about 30 minutes drive from the airport. We traveled the streets, crowded sidewalks I saw crowded sidewalks and street vendors than most. Was in very bad condition while others are part of the road running reasonably held The Street is filled with many types of cars, Kia and Hyundais most Moremashita. Many jeepneys, the Philippines were also the traditional method of travel. Jeepney is similar to a military jeep and stretch a large cargo area that is used for a bench seat for two and a metal roof. Jeepneys are dyed in various colors and lots of chrome often. Many of the jeepney is poorly maintained, and most can be doubt that the wearing of tires and brakes. Many also had a small bike.

After running a few minutes, I was the most dangerous vehicles Cebu jeepney, taxi; bike decided that it was finally. Jeepney drivers dominated the streets, pick up and drop off passengers, would like to stop on both sides of the street. I have seen traffic to swerve from the road immediately cut other people off and then people only two lanes to be able to fly out of the jeepney to urinate along the side of the road many jeepney drivers to allow or saw cut. Car motorcycle jeepney, the motorcycle driver and small size than expected and the only risk for the passengers of anyone walking along the side of the sidewalk and the street, with a good cab, but the risk is slightly lower Create a. Motorcycles are provided by a small shoulder of the road, the car might be drawn as to the separation of the lines on the catwalk, or sometimes anything, to make their own lane, to make himself the extra lane. Other times I saw the motorcycle, push down the sidewalk weaving around pedestrians. However, little worried pedestrians are careless and simply continued on their way.

Study: Partisan political thought is predominantly unconscious and emotional

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

A recent study led by Dr. Drew Westen, a Professor of Psychology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia has concluded that political partisans use an “almost entirely emotional and unconscious” thought process when digesting damaging information about a favored political candidate.

The experiment used fMRI scans of 30 men who self-identified as either a committed Republican or Democrat. The subjects were given a series of conflicting quotes by either President Bush or Senator Kerry, and covered such topics as the Enron scandal and the current state of Social Security. The quotes were doctored to maximize the apparent contradiction, but were presented as factual.

The results suggests that many seemingly rational political decisions are strongly influenced by unconscious emotional reactions. Such conclusions match well results from advertising psychology which say that purchases are also not as rational as people believe. Past fMRI studies have found that Democrat and Republican partisans tend to experience different emotions when shown an image of a preferred candidate.

Westen will present his results next month at a meetings of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology in Palm Springs, CA.

U.S. Coast Guard investigation finds ‘poor safety culture’ contributed to Deepwater Horizon disaster

Sunday, April 24, 2011

An investigation by the United States Coast Guard has concluded the largest oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry was partly the result of a “poor safety culture” aboard the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. The April 2010 explosion aboard the rig, which is located in the Gulf of Mexico, triggered a disaster that led to widespread environmental damage.

The report squarely blames Transocean, which managed the Deepwater Horizon, for being largely responsible for the explosion that claimed eleven lives. The rig had “serious safety management system failures and a poor safety culture,” the report says. Transocean fiercely rejected allegations that crews aboard the rig were badly trained and equipment was poorly maintained.

Deepwater Horizon and its owner, Transocean, had serious safety management system failures and a poor safety culture.

A slapdash safety environment on Deepwater Horizon would mean equipment was not mended or replaced if it meant losing valuable hours of drilling, the Coast Guard found. Electrical equipment believed to have caused a spark that ignited flammable gas was described as being in “bad condition” and “seriously corroded.” The report found that other deficiencies—improperly assembled gas detectors and emergency equipment; audible alarms switched off because of nuisance false warnings; complacency with fire drills; and poor preparation for dealing with a well blowout—all contributed to the disaster.

Transocean attacked the report’s conclusions and suggested the Coast Guard may have played a role in the disaster. A spokesperson for the company said Deepwater Horizon had been inspected by Coast Guard officials only months before the explosion, officials who said it complied with safety standards. “We strongly disagree with—and documentary evidence in the Coast Guard’s possession refutes—key findings in this report,” the company said.

This week, Deepwater Horizon owner BP launched legal action against Transocean. It also filed a lawsuit against Halliburton, the company that cemented the well, and Cameron, which manufactured the rig’s failed blowout preventer. BP is reportedly seeking to claim US$40 billion in damages, and alleges it has taken a massive financial hit and loss of reputation. In a statement, BP said it filed the lawsuits “to ensure that all parties … are appropriately held accountable for their roles in contributing to the Deepwater Horizon accident”.

In the lawsuit against Transocean, BP claims the company missed signs that a disaster was imminent and that it “materially breached its contractual duties in its actions and inactions leading to the loss of well control, the explosion and the loss of life and injuries onboard the Deepwater Horizon, as well as the resulting oil spill.” Halliburton, BP alleges, was riddled with “improper conduct, errors and omissions, including fraud and concealment” which led to the disaster, and continues to refuse to cooperate with investigators.

Transocean dismissed the lawsuit as “desperate” and “unconscionable,” and announced a countersuit against BP, which it claims was responsible for the disaster “through a series of cost-saving decisions that increased risk, in some cases severely.” Halliburton and Cameron, which is also countersuing, announced they would defend themselves against BP’s allegations.

U.S. President Barack Obama marked the anniversary of the explosion by conceding that although “progress” has been made to ensure the safety of deep water drilling rigs, “the job isn’t done.” Obama’s comments came less than a week after leading experts raised serious questions over the security of deep water drilling as the U.S. government approves more exploration without improving safety measures.

Charles Perrow, a professor at Yale University, said the oil industry “is ill prepared at the least” to deal with another oil spill, despite repeated assurances from the industry and the government, which insists lessons have been learned from the Deepwater Horizon disaster. “I have seen no evidence that they have marshaled containment efforts that are sufficient to deal with another major spill,” he said. “Even if everybody tries very hard, there is going to be an accident caused by cost-cutting and pressure on workers. These are moneymaking machines and they make money by pushing things to the limit.”

However, politicians have insisted they are doing all they can to help clean the coast of oil. “Cleanup efforts in some places are still ongoing, and the full scale of the damage done to our state has yet to be calculated, but the good news is that most all of our fishing waters are back open again,” said Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal at a press conference. “All of us here today want the entire nation to get the message that Louisiana is making another historic comeback.”

I don’t see any hope at all. We thought we’d see hope after a year, but there’s nothing.

Gulf Coast residents, activists and relatives of the crewmen who were killed in the explosion paused this week for the anniversary of the oil spill’s beginning. A helicopter took the victims’ families from New Orleans to over the site where the rig stood, where it circled. “It was just a little emotional, seeing where they were,” said one victim’s mother. Remembrance services and candlelight vigils were held in the Gulf Coast region, which continues to suffer from the fallout of the catastrophe. The families have expressed anger at BP, who they say is being unfair and slow in paying out compensation from a $20 billion fund.

The area is still heavily affected by the disaster and reconstruction of the seafood industry that once thrived is slow. While tourists are beginning to return to the region, many are angry at BP and the Obama administration over how they handled the disaster. All the fishing waters in the area have now opened again, but people who live in the area remain dissatisfied. “I don’t see any daylight at the end of this tunnel,” one fisherwoman said. “I don’t see any hope at all. We thought we’d see hope after a year, but there’s nothing.”

Toothpaste fills cavities without drilling

Thursday, February 24, 2005

A paste containing synthetic tooth enamel can seal small cavities without drilling. Kazue Yamagishi and colleagues at the FAP Dental Institute in Tokyo say that the paste can repair small cavities in 15 minutes.

Currently, fillers don’t stick to such small cavities so dentists must drill bigger holes. Hydroxyapatite crystals, of which natural enamel is made, bond with teeth to repair tiny areas of damage.

Yamagishi and colleagues have tested their paste on a lower premolar tooth that showed early signs of decay. They found that the synthetic enamel merged with the natural enamel. The synthetic enamel also appears to make teeth stronger which will improve resistance to future decay. As with drilling, however, there is still the potential for pain: The paste is strongly acidic to encourage crystal growth and causes inflammation if it touches the gums.

The paste is reported in the journal Nature.

Designer Radiators Beauty And Warmth For Your Home

Designer radiators beauty and warmth for your home

by

Emma McCann

When you fit central heating, the radiators are usually chosen for function rather than beauty. Hidden behind furniture or enclosed inside a cabinet, they don t normally get much attention unless they need bleeding. However, there is a growing trend towards buying designer radiators either as a standalone feature, or as a theme throughout the house.

The one thing that puts people off buying designer radiators is the cost. However, today they are no longer restricted to chic design studios. Home improvement stores, like us at Wickes DIY, have brought designer radiators down to an affordable price many are no more expensive than standard radiators bought elsewhere.

There are other bonuses too. For example, many designer radiators are incompatible with existing heating systems. At Wickes DIY, you can be sure the radiators you are buying are fully compatible with regular heating system components, meaning you can create a striking effect in just one or two rooms, without compromising on heating performance in any way.

When people think of designer radiators, they have an image of sleek sophistication in aluminium or chrome. This style first became popular during the Art Deco period of the 1920s and 1930s, and many modern radiators are based on these early, revolutionary design concepts. If you love the jazz age, but live in a home with contemporary furnishings, sleek chrome radiators are one way of combining the two concepts.

If you prefer a more traditional look, there are plenty of designer radiators that copy the style of Edwardian and pre-war cast iron multi-column units, but without the weight or inefficiency. Period radiators can be teamed with matching fittings, and are supplied ready-painted, or primed so you can paint them to match your d cor. We at Wickes DIY have both contemporary and antique-style radiators in a range of stunning effects, including distressed copper, silver and gunmetal finishes.

When choosing modern radiators, there is no limit to the size and styles available. As well as retro horizontal and vertical slimline mono-column units, there are wave, ladder, cube fence and flat-column designs. There are long, slim vertical radiators designed to fit tall narrow spaces, and low-level, stretched horizontal plinths which can be positioned under deep windows.

As they create a room feature, there is no limit to where designer radiators can be placed or at what height. Nowhere is this demonstrated better than with the stunning Focal radiators, which are designed to be hung like artworks. As the name suggests, these create a stunning focal point to the room as well as welcome, mid-height warmth.

If we at Wickes DIY had to select just one room for a design makeover, we d choose the bathroom. There is an amazing choice of designer radiators that also function as towel rails. Some have an integral electric element, meaning you can warm the bathroom when the heating is off. Innovative styles include looped ladder, multi-column, sail, spring, and Sofia models. The latter is a masterpiece of design, incorporating the latest heat tube technology with an innovative swivelling feature that allows the radiator to sit flush against the wall, or pivot outwards on a series of chrome arms.

Zeus botnet trojan horse is back

Saturday, April 24, 2010

Trusteer, a web security company, reports that a trojan horse virus called Zeus can steal online banking details from infected computers. The virus has infected one out of every 3,000 computers of the 5,500,000 million which the company monitors in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The trojan can infect users of Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer on Microsoft Windows, and steals login information by recording keystrokes when the machine connects to certain websites, usually banks or other financial institutions. The stolen data is transmitted to a remote server and sold to cyber-criminals. “We expect this new version of Zeus to significantly increase fraud losses, since nearly 30% of Internet users bank online with Firefox and the infection is growing faster than we have ever seen before,” said Amit Klein, chief technology officer at Trusteer, to BBC.

The trojan has also affected Wikinews users, including Brian McNeil, who is the founder of Wikinewsie, a restricted-access wiki used to collaborate on sensitive news reports. McNeil reported on his userspace: “On Saturday [April] 17, a Windows-based PC in the house issued a cry for help, the Avira package running on the system had just detected a piece of malware; full scans indicated several known pieces of malware and numerous hidden files. Additional scans revealed that all but one of the USB memory sticks and portable hard drives in the house were infected with something. The Zeus botnet, as it turned out.” E-mail accounts for accredited reporters have also been affected.

Iranian International Master Dorsa Derakhshani discusses her chess career with Wikinews

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

In February 2017, the Iranian Chess Federation announced two teenage chess players, Dorsa Derakhshani and her younger brother Borna Derakhshani, were banned from representing the national team. The federation announced their decision although Dorsa Derakhshani had previously decided and informed the chess federation she did not wish to play for Iran.

Dorsa Derakhshani is currently 21 years old and holds the International Master (IM) as well as Woman Grand Master (WGM) titles. Her brother, Borna, plays for the English Federation and holds the FIDE Master title.

Dorsa Derakhshani was banned since she did not wear a hijab, an Islamic headscarf, while competing at the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival in January 2017. Under the laws of Islamic Republic of Iran, hijab is a mandatory dress code. Her brother Borna Deraskhsani was banned for playing against Israeli Grand Master (GM) Alexander Huzman at the same tournament. Iran does not recognise the existence of Israel, and previously, Irani athletes have avoided playing against Israeli athletes.

Mehrdad Pahlavanzadeh, the president of the country’s chess federation, explained the decision to ban the players saying, “As a first step, these two will be denied entry to all tournaments taking place in Iran and in the name of Iran, they will no longer be allowed the opportunity to be present on the national team.” ((fa))Farsi language: ?????? ????? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??? ????? ?? ?? ???? ???????? ?? ?? ????? ? ?? ??? ????? ?????? ??????? ????? ??????? ? ???? ???? ???? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??????? ????. Learn About Bank Of America Refinance Programs

By Sean A. Kelly

If you are looking to reduce your monthly mortgage payments, you can consider refinancing your home loan to a lower interest rate or from an adjustable-rate into a fixed rate loan by learning more about Bank of America refinance programs. Bank of America offers good refinancing programs to suit your needs. Furthermore, the bank also has good rates and excellent customer service. The bank takes good care of its returning clients so if you are searching for a mortgage or a refinancing scheme, you may do well to sign up with this bank.

So, how do you know if you qualify for refinancing? Well, you can refinance your mortgage if you have already built up at least 10% of the equity of your home. After all, refinancing means you are cashing out on the equity of your home. That’s why you need to have at least 10% of equity before you can refinance your mortgage. Also, most banks will look at your home equity before considering your application for refinancing. This is because the lender wants to use your home equity as collateral for the loan. You will also need to be current on your home loan payments and not defaulting in the payments.

Next, you can learn what is Bank of America Refinance program and how many programs the bank offers. So, even if you do not have enough equity in your home and have been current on your mortgage payments for at least 12 months, you may still be eligible for refinancing under the bank’s Home Affordable Refinance program. This program is part of the federal government’s Making Home Affordable program and it was developed to help those who can’t qualify for a traditional refinance. The program will be able to help reduce the monthly mortgage payments for borrowers. However, you are only eligible under this program if your loan is owned by Fannie Mae (Federal National Mortgage Association) or Freddie Mac (Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation). Other than this, your first mortgage has to be 105% or less of your home value, your home is a single-family home unit and you have not been more than 30 days late on your monthly mortgage payments for at least 12 months.

To apply for the Home Affordable Refinance program, you can call the bank and inform it of your current financial information so that it could check on your eligibility for it. The bank may also appraise your home, pull up a credit report to verify your financial situation and then it will notify you of your eligibility within 75 days of your initial call. It will take the bank another 75 days to evaluate your application and once it makes a decision, it will send you a letter. If you have been approved, you will get a call from the bank to schedule the closing of the loan. The closing process is similar to what you experience when you apply for the first mortgage when you purchased your home. You will need to sign the closing documents and you will also be required to pay the closing costs, unless it can be financed into the loan amount.

There are also other Bank of America lender refinance programs such as interest-only refinance loans, jumbo loans, combo loans and other specialized loan programs to suit your specific financial needs and situation. With so many specialized programs including fixed-rate and adjustable rate refinancing schemes available at the bank, it is really worth your while to check it out in your search for a mortgage refinance program.

Teen broadcasts suicide online

Sunday, November 23, 2008

A Pembroke Pines, Florida teenager killed himself Wednesday, November 19, while broadcasting on the live video site Justin.tv. After making suicide threats and being encouraged by Justin.tv viewers and Bodybuilding.com forum members, Abraham K. Biggs, 19, committed suicide by taking an overdose of opiates and benzodiazepine, which had been prescribed for his bipolar disorder.

Biggs first began blogging about his planned suicide 12 hours before the actual event. He died after taking pills and lying on the bed in front of the webcam. After the broadcast, viewers who apparently thought it was a hoax posted messages such as “OMG”, “LOL”, and “hahahah”.

Hours later, after being alerted by viewers who had noticed that Biggs had stopped breathing, law enforcement and paramedics arrived, discovered his body, and covered the camera. The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office has reportedly confirmed Biggs’ death.

According to Montana Miller of the Bowling Green State University, the circumstances of this case were not shocking: “If it’s not recorded or documented, then it doesn’t even seem worthwhile. For today’s generation it might seem, ‘What’s the point of doing it if everyone isn’t going to see it?'”

Biggs’ sister Rosalind was angry that neither the website nor its viewers reacted soon enough to save him. “They got hits, they got viewers, nothing happened for hours,” she said. She described him as “very happy” and “friendly and outgoing.” “On a normal day, you couldn’t really tell that he got as low as he did.” However, he did have relationship problems with his girlfriend, according to a friend.

Mental health professionals have warned about the possibility that other mentally troubled people would copy his actions. According to Dr. David Shaffer of Columbia University, “Any video showing it as heroic or romantic or glamorous could reduce the anxiety people might feel about suicide. It becomes a respectable behavior and lowers the threshold of suicide.” He and other psychiatrists recommend that potentially suicidal teens talk to others and “tell what’s going on.”
